2.1.16 Lab - Set Up a Desktop Computer: Step by Step

Step 1: Set Up the Power Strip

From Inventory to Electrical Outlets, drag the Power Strip to the wall outlet.

Step 2: Power the Computer

• Switch to the back view of the computer.
• From Inventory to Cables, select the AC Power Cable.
• Drag the AC Power Connector (Male) to the power strip outlet.
• Drag the AC Power Connector (Female) to the power port on the back of the computer.

Step 3: Connect the Keyboard

From Inventory to Peripherals, drag the Keyboard to a USB port on the back of the computer.

Step 4: Connect the Mouse

From Inventory to Peripherals, drag the Mouse to a USB port on the back of the computer.

Step 5: Connect the Speakers

From Inventory to Peripherals, drag the Speakers to the green mini-TRS port on the back of the computer.

Step 6: Connect the Monitor to the Computer

• From Inventory to Peripherals, drag the Monitor to the workspace.
• Switch to the back view of the monitor.
• From Inventory to Cables, select DVI-D to DVI-D.
• Drag one DVI-D connector to the DVI-I port on the back of the monitor.
• Drag the other DVI-D connector to the DVI-I port on the back of the computer.

Step 7: Power the Monitor

• From Inventory to Cables, select the AC Power Cable.
• Drag the AC Power Connector (Male) to the power strip outlet.
• Drag the AC Power Connector (Female) to the power port on the back of the monitor.

Step 8: Connect the Printer to the Computer

• From Inventory to Peripherals, drag the Inkjet Printer to the workspace.
• Switch to the back view of the printer.
• From Inventory to Cables, select USB Cable (A/B).
• Drag the USB Type B connector to the USB port on the back of the printer.
• Drag the USB Type A connector to a USB port on the back of the computer.

Step 9: Power the Printer

• From Inventory, select Power Adapter for HP.
• Drag the DC power connector to the power port on the printer.
• Drag the AC power connector to the power strip outlet.

Step 10: Connect Computer to Network

• From Inventory, select the Cat6a cable.
• Drag one RJ45 connector to the RJ45 port on the back of the computer.
• Drag the other RJ45 connector to the RJ45 port on the wall plate.

Step 11: Power Everything On

• Press the power button on the bottom-right of the monitor.
• Press the power button on the front of the computer.
