2.1.16 Lab - Set Up a Desktop Computer: Step by Step
Step 1: Set Up the Power Strip
From Inventory to Electrical Outlets, drag the Power Strip to the wall outlet.
Step 2: Power the Computer
- Switch to the back view of the computer.
- From Inventory to Cables, select the AC Power Cable.
- Drag the AC Power Connector (Male) to the power strip outlet.
- Drag the AC Power Connector (Female) to the power port on the back of the computer.
Step 3: Connect the Keyboard
From Inventory to Peripherals, drag the Keyboard to a USB port on the back of the computer.
Step 4: Connect the Mouse
From Inventory to Peripherals, drag the Mouse to a USB port on the back of the computer.
Step 5: Connect the Speakers
From Inventory to Peripherals, drag the Speakers to the green mini-TRS port on the back of the computer.
Step 6: Connect the Monitor to the Computer
- From Inventory to Peripherals, drag the Monitor to the workspace.
- Switch to the back view of the monitor.
- From Inventory to Cables, select DVI-D to DVI-D.
- Drag one DVI-D connector to the DVI-I port on the back of the monitor.
- Drag the other DVI-D connector to the DVI-I port on the back of the computer.
Step 7: Power the Monitor
- From Inventory to Cables, select the AC Power Cable.
- Drag the AC Power Connector (Male) to the power strip outlet.
- Drag the AC Power Connector (Female) to the power port on the back of the monitor.
Step 8: Connect the Printer to the Computer
- From Inventory to Peripherals, drag the Inkjet Printer to the workspace.
- Switch to the back view of the printer.
- From Inventory to Cables, select USB Cable (A/B).
- Drag the USB Type B connector to the USB port on the back of the printer.
- Drag the USB Type A connector to a USB port on the back of the computer.
Step 9: Power the Printer
- From Inventory, select Power Adapter for HP.
- Drag the DC power connector to the power port on the printer.
- Drag the AC power connector to the power strip outlet.
Step 10: Connect Computer to Network
- From Inventory, select the Cat6a cable.
- Drag one RJ45 connector to the RJ45 port on the back of the computer.
- Drag the other RJ45 connector to the RJ45 port on the wall plate.
Step 11: Power Everything On
- Press the power button on the bottom-right of the monitor.
- Press the power button on the front of the computer.
